BRENDA is a three piece band from Portland, Maine who have spent the last couple of years playing out across the Northeast, New York City and California. Over that time, the band has garnered attention from various publications (Consequence of Sound, The Phoenix, The Deli, and Delusions of Adequacy to name a few), fast becoming one of the premier acts in the Northeast. Brenda’s sound incorporates clean and concise elements of 1950’s rock n roll, with esoteric and breezy turns that suggest a wide range of influences from John Fahey to Built to Spill. They have played with indie stalwarts Wilco, Grizzly Bear, Cave Singers, Avi Buffalo, Dr. Dog, Bear In Heaven, and The Flaming Lips, before heading into the studio to record their debut, SILVER TOWER. Recorded in a dilapidated woodworking shop, across the bay down by the oil tanks, the album caught the ear of Jeff Tweedy (Wilco), who upon hearing an unfinished version of the record, personally invited the band to perform at the first ever Solid Sound Festival.

THE DELI MAGAZINE:

“Chock-full of delicious and emotional melodies, Silver Tower is a perfect road trip album.”

GRIMY GOODS:

“Brenda has all the sheen that makes the band seem like it could go mainstream, but there is just that little something that makes you realize that the band is dirty and will only get dirtier in the future.”

VISIBLE VOICE:

“This is elemental indie rock, music for record junkies.”

DELUSIONS OF ADEQUACY:

An album wound at the seams with sweltering guitars, an album that is unafraid of reaching into the melting jam sense, while still maintaining a hold for their songs’ linear movements and mostly, it seems to be a decent cause for a change.”

THE BOLLARD:

“The indie-rock trio Brenda’s first full-length is destined to be the soundtrack to the season in Portland this year.”

REDEFINE MAGAZINE:

“State Lines is an example of a perfectly engineered piece of guitar pop.”

CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND:

“Even Moms aren’t called Brenda anymore, and let’s try not to remember Beverly Hills 90210, shall we. But don’t let that put you off. This Brenda is three guys with an arresting debut album.”

DOG AND PONY:

if you’re looking for a wildly poppy, fun and twisted way to spend your summer, put Silver Tower on, turn up the volume and let it carry you through. And when the last wavering chord of I’d Be Dead is cut, hit play and do it again.
